Flowers Everywhere

According to behavioral research conducted at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, nature provides us with a simple way to improve emotional health – FLOWERS. The presence of flowers triggers happy emotions, heightens feelings of life satisfaction and affects social behavior in a positive manner far beyond what is normally believed.

A team of researchers explored the link between flowers and life satisfaction in a 10-month study of participants’ behavioral and emotional responses to receiving flowers. The results show that flowers are a natural and healthful moderator of moods.

  1. Flowers have an immediate impact on happiness. All study participants expressed “true” or “excited” smiles upon receiving flowers, demonstrating extraordinary delight and gratitude. This reaction was universal, occurring in all age groups.
  2. Flowers have a long-term positive effect on moods. Specifically, study participants reported feeling less depressed, anxious and agitated after receiving flowers, and demonstrated a higher sense of enjoyment and life satisfaction.
  3. Flowers make intimate connections. The presence of flowers led to increased contact with family and friends.

“Common sense tells us that flowers make us happy,” said Dr. Haviland-Jones. “Now, science shows that not only do flowers make us happier than we know, they have strong positive effects on our emotional well being.”

My paintings of flowers are more than just representations, they inspire joy, they brighten your environment and they last. In harmony with the image of the flowers there are the brushstrokes, the texture, the color…one can be absorbed into a painting for any length of time and every time may discover something about it that transmits a wealth of happiness and satisfaction.

Some of these paintings are available. They vary in price. You can contact me here or my social media for more information.

Sunny Days

What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?

Vincent Van Gogh
I am launching new work and a new blog and I am also working on a new website. 🙂

The images you see here are the sketches as well as some images of the stages that this painting went through. It is titled “Sunny Days” and it’s a 24 x 36 x 1.5 inch oil on canvas painting.

The last image is a small section of the finished piece, which has gone through many transformations from beginning to end.

So I ask myself what Vincent Van Gogh asked and in my mind I think of all the times that I took a step forward, some of those steps brought me pain and sorrow, some of those steps brought freedom and peace, some of the steps lifted my heavy burdens and replaced it with such compassion; my life, too, goes through many trial periods, many transformations and just like my paintings, I am drawn toward something greater in life.

I can say with all conviction, love those around you and let go of the hurt…let go of the small insignificant things that seem so big in the moment and LOVE, LIVE, GIVE and FORGIVE…then your beauty will shine (and mine too).
